There is no more fitting way to spend Africa Day than empowering her children… | ICT-Works

The 25thof May is Africa Day and this year the celebration correlates to Cell C’s Take a child to Work Day. A programme which was initiated in 2003 to enable future aspirations of a girl child in Africa, by exposing them to the working environment through shadowing for the day and talking to staff within organisations that are taking part in this initiative.

ICT-Works with the aim of fostering a balance of future leaders, invited seven female and three male learners from East Bank High School in Alexandra Township. The learners underwent a selection process which was coordinated by both ICT-Works and the School by challenging them to write essays motivating why they had to be chosen to spend the day with the organisation.

The learners who were chosen are those who displayed an understanding of what is that is of interest to them in the ICT industry. These learners were treated to a host of speakers who are specialists with rich stories of experience that not only opened them up to the work that is required of them to succeed but the fruits of the hard-work which would enrich their lives.

A special thank you to all the speakers who took time out of their busy schedules to prepare and deliver presentations as part of this year’s ICT-Works Cell C Take a Child to Work Day!
